GottaCon Costume Contest

Whether you’re a beginner or a veteran, you’re welcome to strut your stuff at the GottaCon Costume Contest, sponsored by Dragon Impact and Northwest Fan Fest. Compete with others to win a prize in one of several categories. Judging will be based on individual costumes. Skits will not be performed (sorry).

By: GottaCon & Northwest Fan Fest

Day: Saturday

Registration: 10:00am to 4:30pm at the Northwest Fan Fest Booth, located next to the GottaCon Photo Booth

Deliberation: 5:00pm to 6:00pm in the main theatre – closed to the public

Awards Presentation: 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the main theatre – open to the public

On Saturday March 1st, from 10:00am to 4:30pm, convention attendees can stop by the Northwest Fan Fest booth and fill out a contest entry form. At that time the attendee’s photo will be taken at the GottaCon Photo Booth and each contestant will be assigned an entry number. Judge deliberation will begin at 5:00pm with contestants present so judges can ask questions and take a closer look at costumes. From 6:00pm to 7:00pm will be the panel portion where the top contestants will show off their costumes on stage and the winners will be awarded their prizes.

There are two major groups with categories

Group 1 – Novice

This is it’s your first time or you are new to costuming but still want to show off your awesome work. 50% purchased and 50% you made/modified.

Best in show (Judges’ Choice)

Prize: $100 gift card to Dragon Impact, a $20 gift card to Fabricland and one weekend pass to Northwest Fan Fest

Runner Up

Prize: $50 gift card from Dragon Impact and $20 gift card to Fabricland

Group 2 – Advanced

You have some skills and you have done this before. You took great pride in your work and have spent a good deal of time and love to make what you wear. Any store bought parts must be heavily modified. Outfits must be at least 75% your own work.

Best in Show (Judges’ Choice)

Prize: $150 gift card to Dragon Impact, a $20 gift card to Fabricland and two weekend passes to Northwest Fan Fest

Runner Up

Prize: $100 gift card to Dragon Impact and a $20 gift card to Fabricland

There is also Three prize categories that everyone qualifies for

Best Craftsmanship: $100 gift card to Dragon Impact and a $20 gift card to Fabricland

Best Video Gaming: $100 gift card to Dragon Impact, a $20 gift card to Fabricland and one pass to Vancouver Retro Gaming Expo

Best Group (must be 3+ individuals to qualify as a group: $100 gift card to Dragon Impact for the group

Things the judges are going to look for:

Sewing and stitch quality

Use of different materials and skills, for example: fabrics, paints, clay, foam, plastics, etc.

Creative solutions to problems

Canon to character and/or original takes on the costume

Entry into this contest constitutes an agreement by the contestants to allow their photo to be taken by the contest organizers. Your photo may be used by GottaCon Conventions and Northwest Fan Fest for promotional purposes at their discretion.

This will be the fifth annual GottaCon costume contest and we are very excited to host this annual event with the help of Northwest Fan Fest!!
