A former Central Connecticut State University student who triggered a campus lockdown and massive police response by wearing a Halloween costume with a sword and BB gun is facing his first court appearance.
Twenty-one-year-old David Kyem (CHEHM') is scheduled to be arraigned on breach of peace and trespassing charges Thursday in New Britain Superior Court.
University police say Kyem wore a costume with a mask, sword, BB handgun and tactical vest on campus Nov. 4. Officials locked down the school for three hours and police SWAT teams responded.
Kyem and his lawyer have declined to comment.
Police say Kyem told them he went to Halloween parties at the University of Connecticut and wore the costume while returning to Central because he didn't want to carry it and all its accessories.
