Earlier this week, droves of the most stylish A-list celebrities and fashion elite made their way to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Met Gala. This year they celebrated the recently dubbed Anna Wintour Costume Center’s exhibition of Charles James—a couturier of the early 20th century who became synonymous with his sculptural gowns.
One can only guess this year’s theme was supposed to evoke the innovative talents of the late James himself. (We’re thinking elegant and flowy, sculptural pieces.) Unfortunately, the tribute to James was hidden under an overwhelming vibe of “frumpy,” perhaps due to the spectacular interpretations of last year’s “Punk: Chaos to Couture” theme.
